Investing in our Future: 2020 Academic Scholarships

By Lesley Miller —

In a typical year, the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation opens the academic scholarship application period on November 1 and closes it at the end of February. Undergraduate brothers submit an application and essay, which is reviewed by a volunteer committee. The committee makes recommendations to the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation Board of Directors for need and merit scholarships based on the monies available.

However, this year, it became evident just after the close of the scholarship application period that circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic put many brothers in a precarious position.

A special COVID-19 Emergency Assistance Scholarship was made available to brothers whose financial situation had changed due to the pandemic.

Due to the overwhelming response, a record $108,450 was awarded to 55 brothers between both academic scholarship programs. Compared to 2019, the average amount awarded per scholarship recipient was 23% more.

The undergraduate brothers’ excitement and gratitude was captured on video, which can be viewed at zbtfoundation.org/why-it-matters.

Thank you to the generous donors who made this possible!
