Alpha Omicron (University of Arizona)

Heath Goldman, 1992, shares that his daughter, Sydney Goldman, represented Team Israel in the 2021 European Softball Championships in Friuli, Italy, earlier this summer. Sydney will again represent Team Israel in the U22 European Championships in Prague and the Senior National team in Barcelona during the summer of 2022.

Robert C. Jacobson, 1997, released his audiobook of Space Is Open for Business: The Industry That Can Transform Humanity this summer.  It’s available direct via https://www.spaceisopenforbusiness.com/book.

Alpha Rho (University of California-Los Angeles)

Dan T. Arriola, 2011, was named among the “40 Best LGBT Lawyers Under 40” by the National LGBT Bar Association for 2021. In 2015, Arriola became the first openly LGBT person of color to become a prosecutor in San Joaquin County, California, and in 2018 he was elected to serve as the first openly LGBT elected official in the history of the City of Tracy.

 

 

Allan G. Mutchnik, 1985, is among a group of friends, many with connections to ZBT, from their undergraduate days at UCLA who have established a tribute to the late Ron Braham, an actor who died at age 33 in 1997. “He was a chameleon. He was able to blend in with [different types of people] and he had such an incredible personality,” said Mutchnik, a former practicing lawyer and the current president of Harbor Freight Tools. Gamma Beta (California State University, Northridge)

Brother Bliss also shares, along with wife Dayna, the marriage of their beautiful daughter Emily Jennifer Bliss to Mr. Sean Braverman on August 8, 2021, in Los Angeles, California. Emily is a 6th grade middle school teacher and Sean is a laboratory scientist.

 

Harvey A. Smith III, 1993, left California and moved to North Carolina where he trained to be a firefighter. His certifications include, SAR, Rescue Diver, Wildland Fire, Structure Fire, Hazmat and Medic. Outside of firefighting, he opened a coffee shop/general store on beautiful Lake Lure (where parts of “Dirty Dancing” were filmed). After leaving, North Carolina, he moved South to Clearwater, Florida, where he currently works as a medic at the Neuropsychiatric Institute of Tampa.

Marc Nathanson, 1967, is proud of his oldest grandson, Andrew C. Swiger, 2023, who transferred from the University of Colorado Boulder’s Beta Alpha Theta Chapter to the University of Southern California, where he moved into the Alpha Delta fraternity house.

Eugene (Gene) L. Telker, 1974, retired from Notifier, a Honeywell company, after serving in quality management for 32 years.

District of Columbia

Alpha (The George Washington University)

James (Jim) S. Reitz, 1987, has been appointed as Head of Sales for the Americas, Voice of Customer and Employee (VoC/VoE) at Forsta, the world leading Customer Experience and Research Technology company. Most recently, Reitz was a Managing Director at Adobe where he led a Strategic Accounts practice for the Adobe Experience Cloud focused on digital transformations to help brands achieve one-to-one personalization at scale. A veteran of the VoC/E space, he spent more than 10 years in various roles at OpinionLab, which was ultimately acquired by Verint. Read the full news release here.

Beta Psi (American University)

Steven Keyser, 1971, has written a free eBook, Rock and Keyser Roll, a memoir of his life in the music business. The book is available on his website, stevekeyser.com, and a one-hour radio interview with Brother Keyser talking about his book is available too. Brother Keyser has worked in the music industry for more than 40 years, in roles such as booking agent, tour manager, concert manager and publicist. His website also has more than 100 concert videos from shows in which he was involved.

Florida

Alpha Zeta (University of Florida)

Zachary N. Bien, 2020, started his own business, Five Star Prep. Five Star Prep offers online tutoring services and courses where students can prepare for the SAT with videos, podcasts, and worksheets. The course is designed to be accessible 24/7, so students can study at any time. Alpha Omega (University of Miami)

Neil H. Goldberg, 1958, lives in Boynton Beach, Florida. Brother Goldberg is still very active in sports and work. He has not retired as yet as he believes working is keeping him young. He works in the health insurance industry and holds licenses in 28 states. He specializes in health and life insurance as well as Medicare supplements.

Dr. Michael W. Weissberg, 1989, completed his doctorate in June 2021. Brother Weissberg is doing his post-doctoral year at Harvard University. Dr.  Weissberg is a member of the board of trustees for the Alpha Omega Chapter.

Illinois

Gamma (Northwestern University)

Jonathan (Jon) M. Pazol, 1989, career science teacher at West Leyden High School in Northlake, Illinois, will participate in a PolarTREC (Teachers and Researchers Exploring and Collaborating) expedition this fall. Paired with a research team from the NABOS Project at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, Brother Pazol will spend six weeks aboard the Russian icebreaker RV Akademik Tryoshnikov in the Siberian Arctic, studying the interaction between fresh and saltwater ocean currents and climate change. Matthew S. Meyer, 2012, was named to the Billboard 40 Under 40 for 2021. He is a music agent with United Talent Agency, representing artists such as Halsey, Machine Gun Kelly, Tinashe and Lil Dicky, based in Los Angeles. He previously was named to Forbes’ 30 Under 30.

Robert C. Ziker, 1961, has enjoyed the great city of Charlotte for the past 25 years. He is still working as a mortgage banker helping people purchase their dream home.

Maryland

Rabbi Stuart J. Robinson, Esq., 1971, became part of the University of Maryland’s Beta Zeta Epsilon Chapter after being initiated into Phi Sigma Delta in 1967. Phi (University of Michigan)

Phi Chapter is holding a reunion in Ann Arbor for Homecoming Weekend from September 24-26, 2021. Reunion Chair Mark L. Rosenberg, 1969, says this will be a great opportunity for our brothers from the late 1960s to get together once again. The chapter had a Zoom call last fall with 28 guys and it was wonderful to connect during the pandemic. Brother Rosenberg notes this group is all over age 70 and are living proof that “ZBT is for a lifetime.”

For the reunion, the brothers will get together at the home of Prof. Robert Hirshon, 1971, for brunch before the game, go to the Big House to watch the Blue and generally enjoy a wonderful weekend in Ann Arbor.

Missouri

Omega (University of Missouri)

Joshua I. Chodor, 2019, was promoted to senior consultant in the Crisis & Litigation Communications practice at FTI Consulting in Chicago, Illinois.

Jordan Kodner, 2019, was hired as Mizzou Hillel’s first Director of Jewish Student Life. According to information from Hillel, his love for his Jewish community and Israel began at Solomon Schechter Day School where he grew up. Jordan has been part of many other Jewish organizations including United Synagogue Youth, the Nation Conference of Synagogue Youth, and Jewish Student Union. He is a Founding Father of the Omega Chapter and was a regular at both Hillel and Chabad as a student. Brother Kodner has also spent 15 summers at Camp Ben Frankel and is a member of the Leadership Team there, as well as previously worked at Camp Manitowa and Camp JORi (Jewish Orphanage of Rhode Island).

New Jersey

Gilbert Martin, M.D., 1963, is a pediatrician/neonatologist in Los Angeles, California. He is receiving the American Academy of Pediatrics Perinatal Section, Pioneer Award in Philadelphia on October 8, 2021.

Anthony K.C. Fong, Esq., 2011, was named as a member of the 2021 OnCon Top 100 Corporate Counsel and 2021 Super Lawyers.

 

 

 

Gamma Phi (Hofstra University)

Steven J. Davidson, 1984, was in Forbes magazine for 2021 as the Best-In-State Wealth Advisors in New York. Brother Davidson’s team has over 75 years with Merrill Lynch, managing over $550 million in assets. He has been with Merrill Lynch for over 35 years. He said being recognized as the best in New York was an absolute honor.  “Life is good, Pay it forward.”

North Carolina

Alpha Pi (The University of North Carolina At Chapel Hill)

Carter D. McCormick, 2015, was named to the Oy! Chicago annual 36 Under 36 list. McCormick, 28, is a Ph.D. Candidate in pharmacy systems, outcomes and policy at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Pharmacy. He works at Janssen Pharmaceuticals, the pharmaceutical company of Johnson & Johnson. Oy! Chicago is a project of the Jewish United Fund, celebrating talented individuals who are changing the community for good. Brother McCormick is a past ZBT staff member and dedicated national volunteer.

Ohio

Beta Eta (Bowling Green State University)

David Alex, 1968, is an award-winning playwright. Following its World Premiere at Chicago’s Greenhouse Theater, his latest play, “N,” is receiving additional productions. Pennsylvania

Alpha Psi (Pennsylvania State University)

Marty Cohen, 1967, is founder and CEO of Health and Community Service Center Dental Clinics in Jerusalem for needy families. He is also a medical clown, certified Jerusalem Guide and an official guide for the Holocaust History Museum at Yad Vashem.

 

 

Alexander J. Cohn, 2023, and Dylan A. Orenstein, 2022, have co-founded a sports management company, AD Sports. Coming into the fall 2021 sports season, NIL regulations through the NCAA have changed. College athletes are now able to generate revenue off their athletic success, by using their name, image and likeness. AD Sports, works to make the connection between athletes and corporations that have an interest in working with them. Louis G. Gilbert, 1960, after 54 years in their home in Dallas, Texas, Brother Gilbert and wife Renee have moved in Dallas to the Legacy Midpark, a wonderful eight-story building with all the amenities of a great retirement facility. Both Gilberts are both in good health. “I am 92 and wife is 86 years young. Would welcome any contact with fraternity brothers of my vintage,” Brother Gilbert added.

Alpha Tau (Franklin & Marshall College)

Morton Segal, 1950, is lecturing on “The Rise and Fall of the Catskills and the Comedians That Made it Famous.”

Zeta of Phi Epsilon Pi (University of Pittsburgh)

Marvin (Marv) L. Recht, 1957, following a 35-year career in HR within General Motors, he joined Butler University’s Lacy School of Business (located in Indianapolis) as an Executive-in-Residence effective with early retirement from GM on September 1, 1992.

In addition to teaching various courses, he was an academic advisor, career mentor as well as the faculty advisor for four fraternities ending his career at Butler in 2017.

Brother Recht was recently notified that he is the recipient of the Butler Service Medal, “…established by the Alumni Association in 2001 as the second highest honor conferred by the Butler University Alumni Association and is reserved for recognition of emeriti faculty or retired faculty and staff (graduate or non-graduate). …The recipient will have achieved a lifetime of distinguished service to Butler University and/or the community. These profound and influential recipients will have helped to shape the past and future successes of Butler University.” Brother Recht was honored at Butler Alumni Awards Recognition Ceremony during Homecoming Week in early September.

Rhode Island

Rho Iota (University of Rhode Island)

Tennessee

Alpha Gamma (Vanderbilt University)

Eugene P. Hough, 1981, will attend his class reunion at Vanderbilt University this October. He is a veteran who works as an educator and preservationist of monuments, markers and cemeteries. He conducts the traveling Legacy Marker Heritage Flag unveiling and folding ceremony with a gifted (20 foot by 30 foot American Flag). The flag ceremony to date has been to 11 states and conducted by over 7,185 participants. Brother Hough plans to conduct the ceremony on the Peabody quad on Saturday of the reunion. Gamma Mu (University of Memphis)

Dr. Zachary P. Nahmias, 2010, took a new job as the Medical Director for Dermatology and Mohs Surgery at NEA Baptist in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He is much closer to home now and will not have to shovel snow anymore.

Texas

Lambda (University of Texas-Austin)

Louis I. Rosenthal, 1981, shares that the Lambda Chapter pledge class of 1977 is having a reunion the weekend of October 29, 2021, in Austin, Texas, at 710 W. 28th St. As of early September, almost 20 brothers and their spouses are planning to attend, reconnect and share treasured memories of the greatest pledge class in Lambda’s history.

Ambassador Arthur L. Schechter, Phi Sigma Delta 1962, has received a Lifetime Achievement Award and Distinguished Alumni Award from the Friar Society of University of Texas. This award is highly coveted.

In 1964, Brother Schechter received the Phil Goodman Award as the Outstanding Phi Sigma Delta in the nation. This acknowledged the work that Brother Schechter had done while at the University of Texas, where he received both a B.A. degree, an LL.B./JD degree. He was an active leader in the chapter and received many awards and honors.

He served as U.S. Ambassador under President Bill Clinton. Since then, he has been a recognized community leader, serving as National Chairman of the National Jewish Democratic Committee; served as President of the Jewish Federation of Houston, Texas, and as a National Finance Chair for the United Jewish Campaign of the major donor group, leading two trips to Israel in that capacity; as President of Congregation Beth Israel in Houston; President of the American Jewish Committee in Houston; Chairman of the Advisory Board of the William A. Lawson Foundation and school in Houston. The Rev. Lawson is a recognized African American Leader in Houston, and the school that he founded now provides educational service, food provisions where needed and uniforms in a school building, which now contains over 300 students, mainly from underprivileged homes and provides a pre-college education.

Brother Schechter has also served on the board of Interfaith Ministries in Houston, which services the elderly in the Meals on Wheels program with food delivery a daily basis. This is the only outside contact that many of the people receive. This organization also provides food for their pets when requested.  Arthur was a founding member, some 40 years ago, of SEARCH, which is an institution which provides help and assistance for the homeless, including housing, educational and job opportunities, and schooling (pre-K through third grade) for the children of these needy, but hopeful, families. Brother Schechter has served on the board of Career and Recovery Resources, which is an organization set up to provide assistance and jobs, schooling, and veterans for physically and mentally impaired people (and others) in the community.

Through the years, Brother Schechter has developed a major law practice in Houston, Texas. His personal specialty has been in the handling of maritime and admiralty cases, which has allowed him to represent various major unions all over the world, and to handle cases, not only in the United States, where he has tried and successfully prevailed in cases in fifteen states in the United States, but also those arising in England, Scotland, Spain and even in Pakistan. Brother Schechter continues to work actively in the community and has served the administrations as Chairman of many municipals for five mayors of the City of Houston, which have revised term limits for municipal officers, including the mayor, who is now limited to two terms; and, in changing, working with U.S. Customs and other agencies, the way foreign refugees and others coming into the country from Muslim and other communities.

Brother Schechter attributes much of his success to his involvement with his brothers from Phi Sigma Delta and Zeta Beta Tau.

West Virginia

Gamma Epsilon (Marshall University)

Raymond H. Hamden, 1972, has studied and worked in the psychology field for 48 years. His graduate studies were in clinical psychology with post-doctoral training in modern psychoanalysis, then a fellowship in political psychology.  Forensic Psychology qualifications were earned in the early years of this century. His current status is consultant globally and author: Balanced-4-Life: Before BurnOut [WestBow Press 2016]; Psychology of Terrorists: Profiling and CounterAction [Taylor & Francis Publishers, CRC Press, 2018]; MuwaHiddoun: a Way of Life (manuscripts ready for publishing 2021-22 on a Spiritual Psychology approach to the Etiquette of Life in various factors of daily living);  AlaKat: relationship for all (manuscripts ready for publishing 2021-22 in Dynamics and Connectedness based on The Hamden Model for Pre-Marital Coaching, a way to rule-in any relationship for success); A Dysfunctional Nation and Its People: Becoming Function (article and workshop format to re-align communities, nations, corporations, etc.)

Wisconsin

Alpha Kappa (University of  Wisconsin-Madison)

Fred B. Davis, 1966, is proud to announce the birth of a new granddaughter named Mabel Simone. She was born May 3, 2021, weighing in at 7 pounds, 2 ounces, to Brother Davis’ youngest son Jason, and his wife Amanda Wolfson Davis. This is their first child.
